FBI re Indicted Former Texas Judge McGinty: “No one is above the law”
by admin on June 22, 2014
Former Texas state court district judge Angus Kelly McGinty was indicted by a federal grand jury last week on charges of conspiracy to commit felony bribery, bribery, extortion, and honest services wire fraud.
If convicted, he faces up to 20 years in federal prison. McGinty reportedly accepted bribes valued in excess of $6,655 from San Antonio attorney Alberto Acevedo, Jr. in exchange for favorable treatment of Acevedo’s clients.
FBI Special Agent Christopher Combs issued the following statement about the case:
“Judges, in particular, are expected to protect the public’s trust in the fairness of the judicial system. Investigations such as the one leading to today’s indictment are crucial to deter corrupt officials influenced by greed from breaking their oath to uphold the rule of law. This case should serve as a strong warning to those who might consider similar alleged behavior. No one is above the law, and everyone is accountable for their misdeeds.”
